Welcome to the CCB Courier for August 15, 2025
Greetings CCB:
During our board meeting this month, we will have as our guest Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) attorneys Mike Nunez (he/him) and Desiree
Robedeaux (she/her). Mike and Desiree are attorneys who represent plaintiffs, including the California Council of the Blind (CCB), in the lawsuit CCB
v. Weber. This federal lawsuit filed in 2024 challenges California’s paper-based methods for returning vote-by-mail ballots. California’s paper-based
methods for returning vote-by-mail ballots impose significant and unlawful barriers upon California voters who have print disabilities who must forgo their fundamental right to a private and independent vote when voting by mail. During their presentation, Mike and Desiree will provide an overview of the status of the lawsuit as well as next steps for the case. Among other things, next steps for the case include CCB’s response to a discovery request for documents regarding its membership. CCB members are welcome to ask questions during the meeting. I urge all members to make every effort to attend this meeting and ask questions as necessary.

Maybe you need to be happier. Emeline Sanchez addresses that in the Marginalian, week of August 8, “How to Be a Happier Creature.”
