The mission of the California Council of the blind is to increase the independence and equality for all Californians who are blind or low vision.

The California Council of the Blind (CCB) provides a safe place for members to express and be heard to pursue equity in our nation as a whole and specifically in our state. This organization is committed to diversity at every level.

We condemn hate crimes, systemic racism, the misuse of police force, judicial inequity, and the disparate treatment of black, indigenous, other people of color, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities. We also strive to eliminate implicit and explicit bias in the medical and educational fields.

California Alliance on Aging and Vision Loss Pre-convention Program

Date and time: Sunday April 26, 2026, at 6 pm
Dear Members and Friends of the California Alliance on Aging and Vision Loss,
We welcome you to attend our pre-convention program to be held on Sunday April 26, 2026, from 6 pm to 7:30 PM Pacific time. CAAVL strongly believes that our seniors who are blind and low vision should be able to grow older with independence and dignity.
Our first program item conducted by Facilitator, Jeff Thom will be “A Discussion of the Rules pertaining to Medi-Cal”. Presenter: Mr. Les Claypool, Operations Manager, Medi-Cal Regulation Specialists. Mr. Claypool will discuss the assistance offered to seniors with all facets of Medi-Cal issues by his company. Questions from the audience will follow.
Our second program item facilitated by Robert Acosta will present Renee Skidmore, Regional Manager, Riverside County Office on Aging, Riverside, California. She will discuss the numerous programs which assist those of us who are blind and low vision to live independently. Questions from the audience will follow. From Golden State Guide Dog Handlers:

Join us at the next exciting Golden State Guide Dog Handlers (GSGDHI) program on April 26, 2026 at 4:00 PM Pacific time. As always, we will have door prizes spread throughout the program. Please read below and forward far and wide to your friends, family and advocacy enthusiasts!
Description of Presentation:
Linda MacLeod, a retired attorney, will first provide us with tips for self-advocacy. How do we make requests for what we need?What can we do when our rights are being challenged?
In the second portion of the program, Linda will speak about her experience suing Uber Technologies, Inc in Small Claims Court for discrimination due to ride share denials involving her guide dog, Gideon. Linda will speak about the process of filing her claim in Small Claims Court, going to Court, presenting her case to a judge, and then collecting damages. She will also answer questions regarding the process and what others need to know if they want to pursue their rights against Uber of Lyft when they are denied a ride share due to their guide dog.
